“Talaash” (meaning “search”) stars three acting heavyweights: Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee.
Ms. Kapoor plays a prostitute called Rosie who meets Mr. Shekhawat (Aamir Khan) during the course of his investigation.
Billed as a thriller, “Talaash” also explores the dark side of human emotions, which suggests it isn’t a typical commercial Bollywood flick. Director Reema Kagti, however, thinks otherwise.
She’s in this sultry and jazzy video from the film which is red hot in India. It’s the official video of ‘Muskaanein Jhooti Hai’.
According to the nydailynews, Kareena loves her co-star Aamir Khan.
Why did you choose to do Talaash?
Kareena: When Aamir first called me, he refused to reveal any details about the plot. Even during the first two meetings, he simply asked if I was free. I said, ‘Yes, but for which film?’ Then I think he finally decided to trust me and told me that Reema (director Reema Kagti) was working on a film called Talaash.
There was already buzz around the film, but for me, it was about working with Aamir. I’m a huge Aamir Khan fan! I love him. Kareena, are you happy with your performance in the film?
Kareena: If an actor is content with his or her performance, 90 per cent of the time, others will like it too. But the media thinks, I shouldn’t have done this, or I should have done that better. Maybe that’s why I stopped watching my films (laughs).
How do you choose roles?
Kareena: The film might be a potboiler, or it can be a song-and-dance kind; I enjoy both. On a rare occasion, you come across a great script. And then you don’t mind just being part of it. I mean, even Brad Pitt did Babel (2006); I don’t think he had a very good role.
I also must credit Saif for teaching me how to choose better roles in the last five years. He says the issue with us actors is that we are always looking for the main role. But sometimes you might want to do a particular role, even if it’s the smallest of parts.
Do you read every script that you get?
Kareena: I don’t read scripts.
Kareena was born to Sindhi-speaking Babita (nee Shivdasani) and Punjabi-speaking Randhir Kapoor in Bombay, India. She has an elder sister, Karisma.
Kapoor was born in a family that have been actors for generations, including her paternal great-grandfather, Prithviraj Kapoor; her grandfather, Raj Kapoor; her paternal uncles, Shammi, Shashi, Rishi, and Rajiv; as well as aunt, Neetu Singh, & Jennifer Kendall, the wives of Rishi and Shashi respectively. On her maternal side, her grandfather, Hari Shivdasani, and aunt, Sadhana, have been actors in their own rights.
As a child she studied in Jamnabai Narsee School in Juhu, Bombay, and thereafter was enrolled in Dehra Dun’s prestigious Welham Girls’ Boarding School. Then she re-located to Harvard for approximately 3 months to take a course in Information Technology and Microcomputers. Upon her return to India, she joined the Government Law College in Churchgate, Bombay, but left it after one year, to enroll in the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting School.
Her dad, Randhir is very protective towards his daughters and wanted both of them to keep away from acting, get married, and settle down, as per the Kapoor family tradition. This led to irreconcilable differences between her parents, ultimately leading to a divorce, with both sisters leaving their dad to live with their mom.
Her film debut was in the year 2000 with ‘Refugee’ along with the debut of Amitabh Bachchan’s son, Abhishek. She went on to appear in 31 other Hindi movies, and has thus far won four awards for her performances in ‘Refugee’, ‘Chameli’, ‘Dev’, and ‘Omkara’.
She is one of the most sought-after actresses in Bollywood, considered bankable, with an enviable A-listing and as of June 2007 is to appear in ‘Tashan’, ‘Lajjo’, ‘Kismat Talkies’ amongst others.
Kareena has a mannequin of herself in Madame Tussaud’s Museum in England. Along with Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Amitabh Bachchan.
