Aishwarya to star opposite SRK after a decade

The buzz doing the rounds is that Aishwarya is likely to star opposite SRK in her comeback film, Happy Birthday.

The actress has been on a sabbatical over the past year because of her pregnancy. The smashing pair will be cast together in Sriram Raghavan’s romantic sci-fi flick after a decade – they last co-starred in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas in 2002. A confirmation from Ash is awaited.

Raghavan had originally planned the project with Ash a few years ago. The filmmaker had then announced his plan to cast John Abraham opposite the actress.

However, the project did not take off then and Raghavan shifted his focus on directing Saif Ali Khan’s upcoming thriller, Agent Vinod.

“Sriram plans to start the pre-production of Happy Birthday once Agent Vinod releases on March 23. While Ash still remains his choice for the lead, a slight change in the film’s concept has necessitated a new hero,” an industry insider said.

A parallel buzz, however, suggests a different reason for SRK replacing John. “Ash wants to return with a bang, and having SRK on board will surely increase the film’s box-office value. Shah Rukh, too, has been keen to do a good film with Aishwarya for a while now,” a source said.

Earlier media reports had suggested that Ash’s comeback film would be Bhansali’s ambitious Bajirao Mastani opposite SRK. However, Bhansali has been planning to launch Bajirao Mastani for several years now but the film just hasn’t taken off.

Let’s hope the film has some sort of substance and doesn’t BOMB!
