Actresses Freida Pinto and Priyanka Chopra showcased their passion for uplifting girls

Actresses Freida Pinto and Priyanka Chopra showcased their passion for uplifting girls around the globe in the new documentary Girl Rising. Directed by Academy Award-nominated director Richard Robbins, the film tells the stories of nine girls from all around the world who are forced into arranged marriages, child slavery, and sexual abuse.

Considering the worldwide uproar over women’s rights in India in the past year, Pinto and Chopra said they jumped at this opportunity.

“I am happy to bring this film to India. The timing couldn’t be more perfect because there has been wide awareness in the last couple of months, maybe years, Pinto said to Indian Express. ”There are people who are raising more questions, who are protesting, debating also probably putting more pressure on policy change.”

Other Hollywood A-listers, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Liam Neeson, Cate Blanchette, and Selena Gomez lent their voices to the film.
