Devyani Khobragade, 39, the deputy general consul in New York, was busted Thursday on federal charges of visa fraud and providing false statements on official paperwork.

She allegedly claimed on visa documents she was paying the employee about $10 an hour, but really paid the women less than minimum wage through a side agreement.

The high-ranking official, who has championed the empowerment of women, lives with her family in a luxury Upper East Side pad — on her country’s dime — and earns about $100,000 a year.

The Indian government is fuming after the embarrassing arrest of one of its top New York envoy.

But the officials expressed no sympathy for the woman who prosecutors said was duped into working for the high-ranking diplomat for less than minimum wage.

Yeah! If you’re going to exploit the poor, don’t call yourself a woman’s rights advocate!
