Lydia Ko paired with Michelle Wie for first 2013 major

Lydia Ko will play alongside the former teen golfing queen who’s mantle she’s taken over.

15-year-old Ko has been paired with Michelle Wie for the opening two rounds of the Kraft Nabisco Championship, the first major of the women’s tour.

Her opening round begins at 4:30pm Friday.

Wie, now 23, was billed as women’s golf’s next big thing and even tried her hand in men’s tournaments on the PGA Tour.

They both shot 72 (E) currently placing them T26. Play is ongoing. The leaders were -4 so that is a pretty good first round for both Michelle and Lydia. Michelle needs to have a strong tournament to get back her confidence. I don’t believe Lydia has a confidence issue:)

Maybe there will be a trade of sorts between the two….fashion sense going towards Lydia and putting technique going toward Michelle?

Back to back solid rounds from Michelle has her 2 under par and tied for 12th on the leaderboard. Best golf she has play’d in awhile. She is more determined than ever with negative comments about her game recently made by Annika Sorenstam. I hope she has a strong third round which would give her a chance on Sunday.

Lydia plays on as well. She is two over par going into Saturday’s third round.

Third round coverage begins on the Golf Channel at 5:00 est.

Michelle struggled on Sundays back nine and ended up even for the tournament (T41). She was not too discouraged for Sunday night she tweeted that she was frustrated yet feels her game is improving. I hope so.

Lydia had a strong final round and ended up two under for the tournament (T25).
