Padma Lakshmi – the former wife of novelist Salman Rushdie – has given birth to her first child.

The Top Chef host, 39, welcomed a daughter on Saturday in New York, her representative confirmed to People. “Mother and baby are well and happy”.

Padma has named her new arrival Krishna Thea Lakshmi.

Just last month, the beauty had hinted about what she would call the baby, saying: “I am going to name the child an Indian name.”

Still no word on the baby daddy.
