Seeking Treatments for Feature Length Stories
It's officially underway, the AAFilmLab Feature Film Relay (FFR)!
The Feature Film Relay is the first feature length venture for the Asian American FilmLab. The 72 Hour Shootout has shown what filmmakers are capable of achieving with a few restrictions, very little time, and a miniscule budget. The FFR is the AAFilmLab's attempt to apply that same independent filmmaking spirit to create a feature length film.
This will not be your typical feature film production. The story will revolve around a selected treatment that outlines the characters and story from beginning to end. Six directors will then divide the treatment into equal parts, develop their section and then shoot it. Each director will have exactly one week to shoot and edit their film. The six short films will then be assembled into a feature length film. There will be several meetings where all six directors/writers come together before production to establish cohesiveness and awareness as to what each director plans to do. However, the production process will be in the form of a relay – the 1st Director will complete his/her work within a week, then hand off the finished product to the 2nd Director who has to continue telling the story from that point in a weeks time, and so on.
For this inaugural Feature Film Relay, the AAFilmLab will host the project in New York and will employ longtime AAFilmLab members for its first six directors: Tony Chen, Matte Chi, David Hou, Hyunsuk Kim, Karen Song, and Peter Wang.
