Ford Supermodel of the World is Korean

Twenty year old Seung-Hyun Kang won this year’s prestigious Ford Supermodel of the World competition. This is the first time in history that an Asian has won this contest. What does that say for Asians in the modeling industry world? Only great things!

What is so unique about Seung Hyun is even though she is from Korea, she blends Eastern and Western characteristics. One of the most attractive parts of Seung is that she still maintains her single eyelid and long eyes which symbolize her Asian heritage, and is blessed with height, long arms and long legs, traditionally symbolizing Western traits.

Seung Hyun studied modeling at Dongduk Women’s University in Korea and now represents Asia in the world of modeling.

Asian girls aspiring to be models will be watching Seung-Hyun’s career very closely. Over the next year, she will continue to develop her catwalk and modeling skills. Perhaps you could win the next $250,000 contract with Ford Models. Read on to experience more of history in the making.

I hope I am an inspiration to young Asian and all girls as someone who chased a dream and with persistence and hard work, achieved it.

ASIANCE: How did you become interested in modeling?

Seung-Hyun: I have always wanted to be a model; I love the fashion industry and get such a thrill out of walking the runway.

ASIANCE: How did you feel when you were announced as the winner?

Seung-Hyun: I was in complete shock. My English is not that good so I was a bit confused at exactly what I had won, but I knew it was good and I was thrilled.

ASIANCE: Which model do you most admire?

Seung-Hyun: I admire so many its very hard to say. I think the young girls who never give up and keep at it no matter what are the most admirable.

ASIANCE: If you can work for any designer who would it be?

Seung-Hyun: Marc Jacobs! I love him!

ASIANCE: What do you think of living in the US compared to Korea? How is the fashion industry different?

Seung-Hyun: Supermodel of the World brought me to NYC for the first time in my life. I am still exploring this wonderful city and learning a lot about the industry. I have been so busy with work since the show I haven’t had much time to really assimilate to the culture yet, but as far as differences in the industry, I see fashion as a universal language and it is just as glamorous and fabulous in Korea as it is in NYC.

  • The day all the people leaving comments slamming Seung-Hyun Kang start their own modeling agency and are willing to shell out a quarter of a million dollars to an upcoming model is the day I will start listening to them, until then STFU.

I will say that Seung-Hyun Kang should SMILE MORE in her photo shoots; that is when she stops being just a cute Korean girl and starts approaching being a BEAUTIFUL one.

Best of luck in your career!
