Dancers go on tour in China

Purchase College Conservatory of Dance has received two prestigious invitations to send dancers to Taiwan and Nanjing China to participate in International Festivals. Taipei National University of the Arts is sponsoring a month-long festival of performances and master classes, and invited the Conservatory of Dance to send two alumnae. TNUA and Purchase College have a vibrant exchange program, each year sending students to study in their respective programs. On October 24, eight Purchase Dance Corps students and two faculty members will join Carol Shiffman and Carol Walker in Nanjing, China. There they will perform at Nanjing Arts Institute and at Jiangsu Province’s 30th Anniversary of International Exchanges “Making Friends Throughout the World” Festival. Purchase Dance Corps will be presenting excerpts of faculty choreographer Kevin Wynn’s acclaimed “Expulsion From Paradise, A Deconstructed Homage to Tania Leon.” The dancers are James Boyd, Marissa Horton, Leah Katz, Brian Lawson, Chalvar Monteiro, Mckay Montz, Christopher Ralph and Chihiro Shimizu (above). The Conservatory of Dance, Purchase College, State University of New York, is interested in establishing a presence in China. The Conservatory of Dance is a pre-eminent professional training conservatory model BFA and MFA degree program in performance and technique of classical ballet and modern dance with a strong choreography program. The Purchase Dance Corps, the performing company of the Conservatory, has achieved international recognition in Asia through its performances at Dance Festivals, notably in Beijing, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
