Kunio Kato wins Oscar for Best Animated Short Film

Director Kunio Kato’s 12 minute long short anime film Tsumiki no Ie ~ La Maison en Petits Cubes (House of Small Cubes) has won an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Academy Award for best animated short film. It portrays the life of an old man who tries to keep rising water caused by global warming out of his house. The work is the only Japanese animation production to even be nominated in the 81st Academy Awards selection.
