The public and media are invited to meet newly crowned Washington Metropolitan Miss Chinese American Beauty Pageant winners Patty Yao, Serena Lin, and Kathy Shi tonight, November 10, at the at the Washington Wizards Asian Heritage Night celebration at the Verizon Center. The festivities will take place throughout the Wizards NBA home basketball game against the Houston Rockets. Miss Yao, Miss Lin and Miss Shi will be available to meet and take photos with the public and speak to the media during the pre-game (6 pm – 7 pm) and halftime periods of the event.
The Washington Wizards Asian Heritage Night honors the Asian communities of the Washington, DC metropolitan area. The highpoint of the evening’s activities will be the contest between Wizards center Yi Jianlian and Yao Ming of the Houston Rockets. There will a large number of Chinese and Asian American organizations and performers in attendance at the event. The public is cordially invited to attend. Game time is 7 pm.
AND Congratulations to Chris Jan, executive director of Pacific Culture International (PCI), organizer and host of the Washington Metropolitan Miss Chinese American Beauty Pageants, for receiving the Governor’s Citation for outstanding service to the State of Maryland and the Chinese American community.
Edward Chow, Jr., secretary of Veterans Affairs for the State of Maryland, presented the award to Ms. Jan during the opening ceremony of the Second Washington Metropolitan Miss Chinese American Beauty Pageant, which was held on September 17 at the Strathmore Music Center in Bethesda, MD. The citation honors PCI, for their leadership and contributions in organizing the Second Washington Metropolitan Miss Chinese American Beauty Pageant and for providing young Chinese American women with education and leadership opportunities. Governor Martin O’Malley, Lieutenant Governor Anthony G. Brown and Secretary of State John P. McDonough signed the award.
