Asians Show a Strong Presence at Fashion Awards
The shortlist for the Global Fashion Awards was announced today and it is proving that Asians in the fashion industry are big players.
At the inaugural Global Fashion Awards hosted by WGSN, Asian designers and tastemakers are dominant in many categories. The Awards saw over 800 entries from across the globe and dwindled it down to those most impressive. Womenswear designer, Alexander Wang was in the category for Most Influential Designer – Women. Wang is the only designer from the US to be nominated. Internationally, Lane Crawford from Hong Kong was nominated for Outstanding Visual Merchandising, Japanese giant Uniqlo was in the category for Most Influential Design Team Brand or Retailer, The Loot in India was voted for Emerging Brand or Retailer and the New Balance stores in Beijing and Shanghai were both shortlisted for Outstanding New Store.
The judging panel includes two Asian tastemakers including Vietnamese-American designer,Thuy Diep, and Indian jewelry designer, Mawi Keivom.
