Ramsay overthrows Wagamama in 2011 Zagat Survey

Gordon Ramsay ‘s restaurant on Hospital Road overtook Japanese ramen bar, Wagamama, for title of London’s Most Popular Restaurant in Zagat’s 2011 London Restaurant category_ide.

Wagamama won the coveted title last year but dropped to number four this year. The popular noodle house was created by Alan Yau – the man behind London’s top Chinese restaurants, Hakkasan and Yauatcha. Both establishments have been awarded a Michelin Star.

It was announced today at the Zagat awards that Yau plans to extend his empire by adding a second Hakkasan in the upscale Mayfair neighborhood.

In the wake of the recession, the Zagat survey found that Londoners are scaling down on dining out. On average, they spend 2.2 days per week eating out, down from 2.5 before the recession. This is dramatically less than other major cities including LA (3.4 times per week), New York (3) and Tokyo (3.3).
