NEWGEN Supports Three Asian Designers

Chau Har Lee, Yang Du and J. JS LEE have been chosen to showcase their work at the British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN exhibition sponsored by retail maven, Topshop.

The NEWGEN exhibition is shown just behind the main stage at London Fashion Week and will be viewed by thousands. This, alongside Womenswear and Menswear catwalk and presentations, will showcase 200 of UK’s most creative designers.

Lee, Du and Lee are three of twenty designers who have been selected by the British Fashion Council to show at the exhibition. Each designer is allotted a separate room to present their work. The room is a simple white box where the designers can customize it to suit their aesthetics creating a mini-display within a large collective exhibition.

Char Har Lee’s exquisite shoe collection has had the industry buzzing with anticipation. Lee is one of five designers who has been shortlisted for the Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize. Her conceptual footwear gives a nod to strong architectural lines and unique silhouettes, pushing the boundaries of footwear design. Her shoes are available for custom order at Selfridges.

Yang Du’s playful and whimsical designs have garnered her a cult following including Marina (and the Diamonds) and Daisy Lowe. Displayed is her current collection entitled “He is Superman” – aptly named for her interpretations of Superman, Batman and Astroboy. Her oversized t-shirt dresses, knitted accessories including humorous hats which become mischievous animal masks and mittens inspired by finger puppets make Du’s collection a fun one to wear.

J. JS LEE’s minimalist aesthetics are highly articulated in her spring/summer 2011 collection. Her sharp tailoring is reinterpreted with a modernity that retains its femininity. Lee’s designs are subtle yet sleek, giving women a new way to dress.
