The World according to Trina Turk

The World according to Trina. Aah, imagine the simpler life before the digital revolution, internet, email and even voicemail, before the Brangelinas and Bennifers. For Spring 2011 Trina has recreated a retro luxe Palm Springs aerie circa 1974- a la Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw lounging about their glam lovenest with guests just as fab as their surroundings.

The secret to Trina’s success is how she translates her classic preppy chic sensibility with retro patterns into a modern chicettes wardrobe. The loft was transformed into several rooms- Pool Deck, Refreshment Bar, Party Room and Bedroom which provided the perfect backdrop and mood to display Trina’s printed cushions and bedding amongst her cheery and primary colored tunics, jumpsuits, and dresses and jewelry for women and bold printed blazers and shorts for men. The collection had a very relaxed 70s luxe Halston inspired feel with one shouldered tunics and blouson jersey dresses adorned with gold cabochon cuffs and chunky statement necklaces. It made you wish that summer wasn’t over and you can break out your summer whites and floral prints, but hey, it’s something to look forward too. Oh and by the way, Trina is half Japanese!

ASIANCE: What do you love about Palm Springs?

Trina: I’m just looking forward to going there in October after a crazy summer. There’s great vintage furniture and jewelry shopping there, its my latest obsession. Not so much clothing. Besides the fact that the landscape its great for shopping for your home.

ASIANCE: What’s your favorite piece in the collection?

Trina: I think it’s the white jumpsuit it’s a little more tailored made out of a suiting fabrication, so its something you could wear to work but if you put on cool shoes you can wear it to a party.

ASIANCE: So it looks like your building a Trina Turk world…

Trina: The reason why we did this presentation this way is to introduce what we’re doing for your home. We’re introducing bedding and an indoor/outdoor upholstery line with a company called Schumacher and we’re also doing pillows and table top items- mostly things that are textile oriented for your house, and beach towels

ASIANCE: If you could conjure anyone that would embody the Trina Turk woman who would it be?

Trina: Maybe Ali McGraw, she was our hair inspiration with the fullness thats parted down the middle.
