Environment and Energy

“Green Conservatism” understands we can protect biodiversity and deliver clean and abundant forms of energy in fiscally responsible way without the heavy handed intervention of government.

Conservatives must do more than say “no” to the big government, apocalyptic environmentalism of the left. We must provide a clear, robust political alternative for local and global environmental stewardship.

“Green conservatism” aims to bring about a cleaner, greener world while protecting the freedom and dignity of all people and ensuring their right to a better economic future. It holds that commerce and conservation can co-exist in harmony, with private philanthropy as the most powerful tool for biodiversity and habitat protection. Government intervention should be a tool of last resort and must not interfere with citizens’ property rights.

The federal government should lift bureaucratic restrictions and bottlenecks that halt environmentally sound exploration of America’s vast oil and natural gas reserves. The federal royalties earned on this new development can be used to fund renewable energy projects and the development of clean energy technologies like carbon sequestration for coal.

We should also create a streamlined regulatory and tax regime for the creation of more nuclear power plants – a carbon and pollution free source of energy already used extensively in the United States and throughout the world – and use incentives like tax credits and prizes to spur new innovation in biofuels and other renewable forms of energy.
