Eagle puts Tseng in pole position in Thailand
A dramatic eagle on the 18th hole gave world number one Yani Tseng a one-stroke lead going into the final round of the LPGA Thailand tournament on Saturday. Taiwan’s Tseng has a three-round total of nine-under 207 after a 70, one clear of South Korea’s Kim In-Kyung (72) and Michelle Wie (71) of the United States in the $1.45 million event at the Siam Country Club Old Course.
Paula Creamer of the United States is in lone fourth place on 209 after shooting a 70, with Australia’s Karrie Webb a stroke further back after a 68 in the season-opening tournament.
New world number one Tseng, who has five career LPGA titles, is in search of a win for the third consecutive week following two victories on the Ladies European Tour in Australia. But some of the LPGA’s top names are in hot pursuit for the season-opening title, with Kim and Wie each closing out their rounds on Saturday with back-to-back birdies to put the pressure on Tseng.
Ladies Golf is clearly dominated by Asian women! Men’s golf is not, yet. Tiger took the number one spot for a long time and will be back on top, but it is not the same as it is for the ladies. Paula Creamer in fourth place is no small feat!
