Charmaine Sheh: Money’s not the issue in TVB departure
Hong Kong actress Charmaine Sheh has insisted that her decision not to renew her contract with Hong Kong television giant TVB was not motivated by money. During an appearance at a promotional event on Saturday in Hong Kong, Sheh dismissed rumours of strained ties with TVB.
Since Sheh signed with TVB in 1998, she had been successfully groomed by TVB to become one of the select few female stars who’s consistently featured in leading roles. However, her announcement earlier this month that she will not renew her contract with TVB had given rise to rumours that Chinese companies have offered her as much as HKD$15 million (S$2.4 million) to join them.
While Sheh, 35, did not deny that she had been approached, the Miss Hong Kong 1997 second runner-up insisted that she was not leaving TVB because of money. “TVB is my maternal home, I grew up here. After I am grown up, TVB will still be my home wherever I go,” said Sheh, whose contract with TVB will expire this year.
