Philippine President Benigno Aquino will be heading to the United States on Sunday on a five-day working trip.

Fresh from his successful state visit to China, President Aquino is now heading to New York for his second trip to the United States to take part in a global initiative on open governance and attend the annual World Bank and International Monetary Fund meetings in Washington.

Though there will be no bilateral meetings with President Barack Obama, President Aquino is honored that he will deliver the keynote address for the launch of the “Open Government Partnership Conference” in New York next week, where he will promote his administration’s commitment and accomplishments after a year of laying down reforms to fight corruption.

While in New York, President Aquino and his economic managers will also seek for a credit rating upgrade from various credit rating agencies there. Mr Aquino believes that his administration’s gains and pledge to transparency, anti-corruption and good governance should merit for a higher credit rating for the Philippines.

President Aquino will also deliver a lecture at the annual meeting of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, where he will share his administration’s platform of good governance and its effect on poverty reduction.

After his working visit to the United States, President Aquino will then leave for a state visit to Japan, where he will attend several business forums and seek to further strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
