Tiger Woods secured the clinching point to ensure the Cup will be coming home to America. All that remained was for Steve Stricker to close out Y .E. Yang in the anchor match to make the final score 19-15.
Woods, who was a controversial captain’s pick, birdied 5 of his first 11 holes, and scored a 4 and 3 victory over the Australian Aaron Baddeley.
“I heard he played like the Tiger of old today,” Couples said. “I think he showed to himself that his swing is back and he’s healthy.”
Couples said he was never nervous until he looked at the leaderboard and the International team was ahead in all the early matches.
The Americans continued their dominance of the Presidents Cup; they have won seven of the nine Cups since its inception in 1994. The last time the Cup was played at Royal Melbourne, four Australians players earned 11 wins, with three losses and four halved results.
Hopefully, this is the beginning of Tiger’s comeback!
