Jeremy Lin and the Knicks play the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 20th.
Groups like MotivAsians and the Organization of Chinese Americans of Greater Cleveland (OCAGC) have arranged for group ticket discounts from the Cavs.
They are suggesting fans come early to watch the pre-game warm-ups. And they’re holding out the hope of a community meet-up with the man himself.
Whether or not Lin accommodates them, community leaders expect a throng.
“Everybody is excited,” said OCAGC president Johnny Wu. “He’s an American guy with a Chinese family. He’s a role model for many, many Chinese families here.”
Lin, the son of immigrants from Taiwan, is believed to be the NBA’s first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent. Asians of all nationalities are enjoying his success.
The community is billing the evening as “Asian Heritage Night” and is promising a showing of Asian pride.
“A lot of people want to bring their kids,” Wu said. “He was an underdog. Parents are saying, “You know what? If he made it. . . .”
To join OCAGC at the game, visit the group’s, website ocagc.org, for ticket information or call the arena’s Dan Maret at 216-420-2058.
