Woods has been embroiled in a tussle with Golf Channel analyst Brandel

Woods has been embroiled in a tussle with Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee, who recently insinuated that Woods cheated on the PGA Tour.

Chamblee subsequently apologized, but Woods hinted on Monday that maybe the analyst’s television bosses should take punitive action.

“All I am going to say is that I know I am going forward,” Woods told the Associated Press before an exhibition match against Rory McIlroy in China. “But then, I don’t know what the Golf Channel is going to do or not.”

Chamblee is known as a frequent on-air critic of Woods, but the negative comments in question came in a column for Golf.com. Reviewing the 2013 season — and the penalties Woods received in several tournaments — he wrote that the world’s top-ranked golfer had been “a little cavalier with the rules.”

At the Masters, an improper drop cost Woods a two-shot penalty. At the BMW Championship, video showed that his ball moved when he pulled away some debris. There was also a penalty in Abu Dhabi and a rules flap at the Players Championship.

Monday’s comments were Woods’ first public statement on the matter, though his agent, Mark Steinberg, had previously threatened legal action.

Woods also said that “the whole issue has been very disappointing, as he didn’t really apologize and he sort of reignited the whole situation. So the ball really is in the court of the Golf Channel and what they are prepared to do.”

Officials of the Golf Channel have yet to comment.

In China, Woods lost his unofficial medal match by one stroke against McIlroy, who shot a 6-under 67.
