‘Breakout’ leads Star Awards with 14 nominations

Channel 8 blockbuster drama “Breakout” leads this year’s Star Awards with 14 nominations including best drama serial, best screenplay and best theme song.

The series also scored double nominations in three of the major acting categories – best supporting actress, best actress and best actor. “Breakout” stars Christopher Lee and Elvin Ng are up for best actor against Qi Yu Wu (“The Family Court”), Shaun Chen (“Your Hand in Mine”) and Tay Ping Hui (“The Family Court”).

This is Ng’s second straight best actor nod – his first was for his role in MediaCorp drama “Together” – and the nomination is extra sweet for him. “After my first nomination I was asking myself ‘now where do I go from here’, so I’m really happy I am in the running again,” said Ng.

Rising to the challenge of playing an autistic character, the nomination spells a sense of accomplishment for the 30-year-old, who is happy to have gained the recognition of his peers.

This theme song is similar to that of an American Soap Opera.

I love that Ng plays an autistic character! It brings about the much needed awareness of autism. Autism in all of its forms is the most challenging disorder for parents to challenge.
